The Public Information Office provides an effective public information and communication link between the Township government and its citizens through publications, news releases, oral and written presentations, cable television and other mass media. It also coordinates activities related to the cable television franchise.

Public Information Officer
Thomas J. Walsh, Lower Merion's Public Information Officer, joined the Township’s senior management team in 2012. Tom is the main Township contact for local and national media, and serves as liaison to the Township’s Cable TV Advisory Committee, acting as facilitator of Lower Merion's cable franchise agreements with providers Comcast and Verizon. He is the Township's official Open Records Officer and is a member of the Emergency Management Team. As PIO, Tom is responsible for implementing a comprehensive public information program, including supervision of the Township's government-access television channel (“LMTV,” Comcast channel 7, Verizon channel 37) and the Township's social media platforms (Twitter, @LowerMerionTwp; and Facebook). He hosts several LMTV programs, and oversees publication of the Township Newsletters and the Annual Report & Calendar. He also sits on the Health Advisory Council. Tom is a member of the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC). In 2013, he was a graduate of the Main Line Chamber of Commerce's "Leadership Main Line" program.
Tom has more than 20 years of experience as an award-winning reporter, writer and editor, including stints at the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Business Journal, and the Reno Gazette-Journal. While at the Business Journal, he performed weekend business news reports for KYW Newsradio. Tom has also worked for well-known Internet news outlets such as PlanPhilly.com, Knowledge@Wharton, AOL, and Commercial Real Estate Direct.
A graduate of Temple University as a communications major, Tom is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he started his career with five years on active duty as a broadcast journalist and public affairs specialist. A Persian Gulf War vet, he is a member of the VFW and the American Legion, and resides in Ardmore.
