Parks are open sunrise and sunset, daily local time, with the following exceptions:

Vernon V. Young Park is open sunrise to 10:00 p.m.

Lewis Smith Hockey Rink is open 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.


Smoking is prohibited in all Township parks, except for motor vehicle parking areas.  Smoking is defined as the carrying by a person of a lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe or other smoking device.

Bicycles, Skateboards, and Non-Vehicular Motor-Powered Transportation are prohibited, except for the Cynwyd Heritage Trail.

Motor powered or propellant-driven aircraft or rockets are prohibited in all Township Parks.

Golf is prohibited except on putting greens and other locations provided for such purposes and specifically so designated.

Fire is not permitted to burn in a park without a Bon-Fire permits can be requested through the Fire Department

Advertising Call the attention of the public in any way to any article or service for sale or hire is Prohibited.

Gambling or the use of Malt or Alcoholic Beverages on Township property are prohibited, except upon the grounds of Appleford and Harriton pursuant to a permit.   No intoxicated persons shall be permitted in a park.

Motor Vehicles must be parked in spaces set aside and marked for parking during park hours only.  No person shall enter or leave a park except by entrances or exits provided for such purposes, and no person shall drive a motor vehicle in a park except on a road or driveway.

Profane or Indecent Language or Rowdy or Objectionable Conduct will result in the immediate removal from a Park.

Fundraising, Profit-Making or Commercial Activities are prohibited  in any Township park without a permit. 

Dogs or other domestic animals are not allowed in the township parks, playgrounds or indoor facilities, except when an activity involving such animals is officially sanctioned by the township with the exception of the following:

  • Kenealy Nature Park
  • Linwood Park
  • Merion Botanical Park
  • Pencoyd Park
  • Penn Wynne Park (Wooded area ONLY)
  • Righters Mill Road Site
  • Rolling Hill Park
  • Sharpe Bird Sanctuary
  • Shortridge Memorial Park (Signed designated area ONLY)
  • West Mill Creek Park
  • Williamson Road Site


Violations and penalties.

Any person who violates any of the provisions of chapter 109 shall be liable on conviction thereof to a fine or penalty of not more than $600 for each and every offense.
