The Lower Merion Township Environmental Advisory Council and Shade Tree Commission and the Narberth Borough Environmental Advisory Council and Shade Tree Commission co-sponsor the annual “Go for the Green” Awards to recognize Lower Merion and Narberth residents, businesses, organizations and schools for significant contributions to improve or protect the environment and the natural resources, and to raise awareness about important environmental issues.

Go for the Green award winners were recognized at an awards ceremony on Monday, May 12, 2025.

AWARD CATEGORIES

Joseph M. Manko Lifetime Achievement Award: Presented for significant, long-term contributions to the environment epitomized by the career in public service, private environmental legal practice, environmental legal education, and non-profit board service of long-time Lower Merion Commissioner and former EPA Region 3 General Counsel Joseph M. Manko.

Maki San Miguel Paulson Sustainability: Presented in memory of a Lower Merion Environmental Advisory Council member who exemplified the award recipient’s qualities of expertise, creativity and tenacity in seeking and advocating solutions to global warming or the preservation of natural resources.

2025 Recipient: Joe MacNeal

Resident: Presented to an individual residing in Lower Merion or Narberth who has made or is making a material contribution to the protection and enhancement of our natural resources or to the making of a more sustainable community.

2025 Recipient: Dr. Karen Snetselaar

Commercial: Presented to an enterprise conducting business in Lower Merion or Narberth that has made or is making a material contribution to the protection and enhancement of our natural resources or to the making of a more sustainable community.  

2025 Recipient: Appleford Estate

Organization: Presented to a citizens group or organization, such as, but not limited to, a neighborhood group, civic association, business association, homeowner association, or the like, based in Lower Merion or Narberth that has made or is making a material contribution to the protection and enhancement of our natural resources or to the making of a more sustainable community.

2025 Recipient: Marie Kelly, Stacy Gordon, and Noel Libert

Educational: Presented to a public or private preschool, primary school, or secondary school, or to a teacher, administrator, board member, staff member or school club of any such school, in Lower Merion or Narberth that has made or is making a material contribution to the protection and enhancement of our natural resources or to the making of a more sustainable community through its educational mission or otherwise. 

2025 Recipient: Alex Borghese and Camila Tobon

Institution: Presented to a nonprofit institution, such as, but not limited to, a college, university, affiliated student or youth organization, community organization, religious congregation, social service provider, or the like located in Lower Merion or Narberth that has made or is making a material contribution to the protection and enhancement of our natural resources or to the making of a more sustainable community.

2025 Recipient: Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El

Green Design and Development: Presented to a person or entity residing or conducting business in Lower Merion or Narberth that has engaged in innovative or thoughtful site planning, building or landscape design or the choice of building materials so as to preserve and protect natural resources or reduce the community’s carbon footprint. 

2025 Recipient: Penn Wynne Library Association

Friend of Penn’s Woods: Presented to a person or entity residing or located in Lower Merion or Narberth that has made or is making a material contribution to the growth, restoration, maintenance, and preservation of the community’s tree canopy or urban forest by personal stewardship, education or advocacy. 

2025 Recipient: Nick Cronin

Government Service:

Presented to an elected official or government staff member who, in such capacity, has made an exceptional contribution or series of such contributions to the sustainability of Lower Merion or Narberth or has exemplified responsible government stewardship of a municipality’s natural resources and environmental quality. 

2025 Recipient: Elizabeth "Lizzie" Diacik
