Go for the Green Awards Program
The Lower Merion Township Environmental Advisory Council annual “Go for the Green” Awards recognize Lower Merion residents, businesses, organizations, and schools for significant contributions that improve or protect the environment, preserve natural resources, and make the built environment more sustainable.
Go for the Green awards winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony to be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Nominations
Nominations are now open and due Sunday, April 19 !
Go for the Green Award applications will be assessed based on successful and creative implementation of programs that contribute to the Lower Merion Township sustainability plan priorities for the community. Examples of high-impact areas and sample programs include:

Energy Transition (energy efficiency, “electrify everything, ” switch to zero-carbon energy sources/renewable, use of low GWP refrigerants, EVs, etc)

Resource Management (increasing tree canopy, reducing invasive plants, native gardens, sustainable lawn management, etc)

Waste Reduction (recycling programs, composting, circular economy, upcycling, etc)
-
Community Engagement and Environmental Education (environmental education programs and campaigns, social media or marketing programs, and youth advocacy initiatives)
-
Water Stewardship (water efficiency, stormwater reduction, improving local waterway quality, etc)

Green Design (implementing sustainable design principles, renewable energy projects (residential and commercial), LEED certification, passive design, low-carbon and sustainable materials, etc)
Award Categories
Joseph M. Manko and Maki San Miguel Paulson Achievement Award: Presented for significant, long-term contributions to the environment epitomized by the career in public service or community advocacy, including: environmental legal education, non-profit board service, municipal sustainability advocacy, or educator. In memory of long-time Lower Merion Commissioner and former EPA Region 3 General Counsel Joseph M. Manko. In memory of Makie San Miguel Paulson, a Lower Merion Environmental Advisory Council member, who exemplified creativity and tenacity in seeking global warming solutions and the preservation of natural resources.
Resident: Presented to an individual residing in Lower Merion or Narberth who has made or is making a material contribution to the protection and enhancement of energy conservation, natural resources, or to the making of a more sustainable community. See above for an expanded list of categories.
Commercial: Presented to an enterprise conducting business in Lower Merion or Narberth that has made or is making a material contribution to the protection and enhancement of energy conservation, natural resources, or to the making of a more sustainable community. See above for an expanded list of categories.
Organization or Institution: Presented to a citizens group, organization, or nonprofit institution, such as, but not limited to, a neighborhood group, civic association, business association, homeowner association, college, university, community organization, religious congregation, or the like, based in Lower Merion or Narberth that has made or is making a material contribution to the protection and enhancement of energy conservation, natural resources, or to the making of a more sustainable community. Educational: Presented to a public or private preschool, primary school, or secondary school, or to a teacher, administrator, student, board member, staff member or school club of any such school, in Lower Merion or Narberth that has made or is making a material contribution to the protection and enhancement of energy conservation, natural resources, or to the making of a more sustainable community. Green Design and Development: Presented to a person or entity residing or conducting business in Lower Merion or Narberth that has engaged in innovative or thoughtful site planning, building or landscape design or the choice of building materials to preserve and protection and enhancement of energy conservation, natural resources, or to the making of a more sustainable community. Government Service: Presented to an elected official or government staff member who, in such capacity, has made an exceptional contribution or series of such contributions to the sustainability of Lower Merion or Narberth or has exemplified responsible government stewardship of a municipality’s protection and enhancement of energy conservation, natural resources, or to the making of a more sustainable community.
