Policies for Sending Tax and Sewer Payments – Please Read Carefully

We only accept payments which are tendered or postmarked by the United States Postal Service on or before the due date. To meet these standards, your tax payment must meet one of the following criteria:
  1. Received in our office on or before the due date, or
  2. Postmarked by the United States Postal Services on or before the due date.
  3. Electronic payments when the financial provider/bank notifies the Tax Office of a payment effective date that is on or before the due date. Because internet bill pay can have multiple days of lead time built into the process, even if you select a payment date on or before the due date, payments started before the due date will not be timely unless the Tax Office has notice from the financial provider that the payment effective date is on or before the due date.

Payments that do NOT meet this criteria:

  1. Metered mail. This does not receive a U.S. postmark and we do not know when it was mailed.
  2. Internet bank checks not sent electronically. These are mailed by third party processors using postal permits. These are not postmarked, and we do not know when they are mailed.
  3. Automated stamps purchased at the Post Office or from online vendors such as stamps.com. These are not postmarked, and we do not know when they are mailed.
  4. Private delivery, such as FedEx or UPS, does not qualify because it is not postmarked by the United States Postal Service.
  5. Electronic payments where the taxpayer’s financial provider/bank notifies the Tax Office of a payment effective date that occurs after the due date. Because internet bill pay can have multiple days of lead time built into the process, even if you select a payment date on or before the due date, payments started before the due date will not be timely unless the Tax Office has notice from the financial provider that the payment effective date is on or before the due date.
Payments that do not receive a U.S. postmark must be received by the due date on your bill.
