Each year new trees are planted on streets throughout Lower Merion Township. Tree sites are selected by the Shade Tree Commission with input from Civic Associations and Township residents. A priority of the Shade Tree Commission is to replace trees that have been removed along Township streets.

Property owners who would like to have a tree planted in the right-of-way on their property can contact the Township Arborist at 610-726-7141 or fill out the form below.

Thereafter, the Township Arborist will inspect the site to determine if it is suitable for a shade tree. All considerations are taken into account for whether a tree can be planted and if so what species would be best.

Once a year in the fall, new trees are planted on streets throughout Lower Merion Township.

With direction from the Township Arborist and permission from the property owner, trees are planted within the right-of-way on private properties at no cost to the property owner.

Twice a year in the spring and fall, in cooperation with Lower Merion Township, Lower Merion volunteer Tree Tenders groups plant trees in parks and at select residences, outside of the Township right-of-way.

With guidelines provided by PHS Tree Tenders, trees are yours to care for after they are planted by a Tree Tender group.  A typical care responsibility is to ensure trees are regularly watered in the first 1-2 years of establishment after planting.

Please note that only the Ardmore and Bala Cynwyd Tree Tenders groups currently plant trees on private properties.
