Knox Box Information
On November 18, 2020, the Board of Commissioners passed Ordinance 4201, requiring the KnoxBox secure key box system be installed in all commercial, institutional, industrial, and municipal buildings, with or without a residential component; on such structures that are secured in a manner that restricts access during an emergency; and on all multi-family dwellings having four or more units.
The KnoxBox program is an effective and secure program, meeting the new UL Standard 1037. This system provides complete tracking from the time the box is installed and recognizes each time it is opened and closed, as well as who has opened the box. These boxes can also be outfitted with a tamper switch to send a security alarm signal out when they are opened, or if they were removed. This is highly recommended for facilities such as banks and other buildings that may have highly sensitive material in them.
