To receive a federal tax ID number, please call the Philadelphia IRS Service Center Tele-TIN unit at 866-816-2065. You can also visit the Internal Revenue Service website.

The Business Privilege/Mercantile Tax return is due April 15th each calendar year.  If April 15th falls on a weekend or holiday then the deadline is extended to the next business day. 

If a business begins after April 15th, the license/estimated tax is due 40 days after the business opens.

The Township is currently accepting Business Privilege/Mercantile tax returns and payments online through the PA LITE portal.  You can request an online account by emailing businesstax@lowermerion.org with your Township tax account number.  Business license/registration fees and Local Services Tax returns must be completed, signed and mailed to the Township building with a check, if applicable.

Yes – Rental properties are required to maintain a Business License and all rental receipts including applicable capital gains must be reported to the Township on a Business Privilege Tax Return.  In addition, all residential rental properties must also maintain a Rental License issued by the Building & Planning Department.

Yes – Under the Township code the renting of property to another is a business activity subject to Township business tax requirements.   Local Business Tax is not governed by the Federal Tax Code.
