In Lower Merion Township housing policies have been coordinated with transportation, land use, environmental and community infrastructure efforts to maintain the Township’s residential character and livability. The Township’s older and attractive housing stock combined with the Township’s diversity of residential neighborhoods and high levels of municipal services make Lower Merion an attractive place to live. The continued attractiveness of the Township as a residential community encourages continued investment within the community, but also promotes speculative redevelopment of existing housing. Maintaining the Township’s high quality built environment, while also maintaining the social and economic diversity of the Township is a core planning challenge considered in the Housing Element of the Township’s Comprehensive Plan.
