Chapter 155 Zoning:

The Historical Commission shall perform those duties established by Chapter 88 and by Chapter 155 with respect to recommending to the Board of Commissioners those properties to be placed on or removed from the Historic Resource Inventory, distinguishing between those properties to be classified as Class I and Class II Historic Resources. The Historical Commission shall further give counsel to the Board of Commissioners, as provided for in this chapter and in Chapters 62, 135 and 155, regarding the preservation or demolition of those resources of historic significance located in the Township, but not within a local historic district.

Application for Review (PDF, 148 KB) - To initiate the process of obtaining a building permit for a property on the Historic Resource inventory (HRI), applicants must submit a completed copy of this application.

The Historic Resource Preservation Ordinance - enacted 3/15/2000, contains the references to all Code Chapters impacted by this ordinance.

Historic Preservation Awards

The HARB and the Historical Commission periodically co-sponsor awards. The 2017 Historic Preservation Awards were held on October 19 and took place at the Levering Mill Tribute House.

In 2017 the Township was proud to honor 9 historic preservation projects, 3 individuals for communication/education efforts, 8 past members of the HARB and Historical Commission, and Gerald Francis, recipient of the Robert DeSilets Award.

Demolition/Renovation Permit

       1   29 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bala Cynwyd – Class 2 – 2018-R-11

Application to replace a rear porch with an enclosed two-story frame addition. Selected windows will be replaced with Pella Architect Reserve windows. New garage doors and windows are proposed for the detached garage. Other material specifications are noted on the submitted plans. Applicant returns with new details and revised specifications after application was tabled in May.

       2   1333 Fenimore Lane, Gladwyne – Class 1 – 2018-R-12

Application to remove two double-hung windows on the rear of the house and enlarge the openings for the installation of single French doors with transoms. On the front of the house, a single double-hung window opening would be enlarged for a triple window unit, re-using the windows removed from the location of the new French doors on the rear.

       3   275 N. Latchs Lane, Merion Station – Class 2 – 2018-R-13

Application to remove a non-historic sunroom and replace it with a new mudroom entrance and attached two-car garage, with materials and details referencing the historic structure.

       4   1124 Indian Creek Road, Wynnewood – Class 2 – 2018-R-14

Application to replace all original wood windows in the structure with Weather Shield clad wood windows, to match the appearance of the existing windows.

       5   230 Pennswood Road, Bryn Mawr – The Church of the Redeemer – Class 1 – 2018-R-15

Conceptual approval of this application was recommended for approval in November, 2016. Applicant returns with a refined design for an addition to the Parish House, which would replace a mid-20th century section of the building.

       6   125 McClenaghan Mill Road, Wynnewood – Class 2 – 2018-R-16

Application to demolish this ca. 1848 residence for the construction of a new residence. A Historic Resource Impact Study has been submitted with the application.
