Adopted Ordinance - Leaf Blower Regulations

An ordinance restricting the use of gas powered leaf blowers in Lower Merion was adopted at the November 19, 2025 Board of Commissioners meeting. The full adopted ordinance can be found here.

Key provisions:

  • Use restrictions apply to all persons and entities, including residents, commercial landscapers, contractors, and property maintenance personnel, on all properties within the Township.
  • 2026: The use of gas powered leaf blowers will not be allowed from June 1 to October 1 . 
  • 2027: The use of gas powered leaf blowers will not be allowed from January 1 to April 1, nor from June 1 to October 1. 
  • 2028: The use of gas powered leaf blowers will not be allowed from January 1 to October 1.
  • Beginning January 1, 2029 and for every year thereafter, the use of gas powered leaf blowers will be prohibited for the entire year.
  • The use of electric-powered leaf blowers is allowed all year.
  • Use of gas powered generators to run corded electric leaf blowers or charge electric leaf blower batteries will not be allowed.

Commercial Landscaping with Electric Equipment

Area landscaping professionals and caretakers of commercial, institutional, and municipal properties are welcome to attend this FREE event, aimed at guiding landscaping professionals on how to transition to electric equipment to run quieter, cleaner, healthier and more eco-friendly operations.

Residents who refer their landscapers to the event will be entered to win a raffle prize! Residents may also submit landscaping company info here

1 hour of expert-led classroom instruction will focus on the logistics, economics and benefits of transitioning to electric equipment. Afterwards, participants will get a hands-on demonstration of electric equipment from manufacturers like STIHL, Husqvarna, Kress, Makita, Greenworks, Echo Robotics, and more. 

Participants will have a chance to win raffle prizes, including a STIHL BGA 57, Greenworks 82BH22-4DP and Kress KC510 handheld blower sets!

The event is being facilitated by the American Green Zone Alliance and cohosted by the Townships of Lower Merion, Haverford, Springfield and Narberth Borough.
