The Historical Commission shall perform those duties established by Chapter 88 and by Chapter 155 with respect to recommending to the Board of Commissioners those properties to be placed on or removed from the Historic Resource Inventory, distinguishing between those properties to be classified as Class I and Class II Historic Resources. The Historical Commission shall further give counsel to the Board of Commissioners, as provided for in this chapter and in Chapters 62, 135 and 155, regarding the preservation or demolition of those resources of historic significance located in the Township, but not within a local historic district.

Historic Preservation Awards
The HARB and the Historical Commission periodically co-sponsor awards. The 2017 Historic Preservation Awards were held on October 19 and took place at the Levering Mill Tribute House.
In 2017 the Township was proud to honor 9 historic preservation projects, 3 individuals for communication/education efforts, 8 past members of the HARB and Historical Commission, and Gerald Francis, recipient of the Robert DeSilets Award.

2. 2020-IA-1 – 1550 Monk Road, Gladwyne – Monk’s Elbow
Application to list this currently undesignated property as a Class 1 historic resource.
3. 2019-R-20 – 6 Bala Avenue, Bala Cynwyd – Class 2
Application to renovate and construct additions onto a historic house as part of an expansion of the French International School and construct a new building on the campus. Application was tabled in September 2019.
4. 2020-R-2 – 202 Bala Avenue, Bala Cynwyd – Class 2
Application to modify a stone commercial structure to more closely match historic precedent, including constructing a pent roof and arched doorway at the storefront level and replacing glass blocks with windows on the side elevation.
5. 2020-R-3 – 423 Dove Lake Road, Gladwyne – Dove Lake Farm – Class 2
Application to modify a residence by removing additions and porches, renovating the historic core of the building, and adding a new rear addition.
6. INFORMAL REVIEW – 936 Rock Creek Road, Bryn Mawr – Class 2
Applicant seeks preliminary comments on a proposed renovation of a non-historic garage, which would be re-clad with horizontal siding and undergo other modifications. Currently the garage has a half-timbered Tudor-style façade.
Recommendations of the Historical Commission will be reviewed by the Building & Planning Committee on Wednesday, February 12 and voted on by the Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, February 19.
