Posted Date: 1/19/2010 10:06 AM

Lower Merion Township residents who would like to take advantage of the designated off-leash dog areas available at Rolling Hill and West Mill Creek Parks may purchase permits at both the Parks and Recreation and Police Departments.

“In order to receive a permit, which costs $25 per dog, residents must provide proof that their dogs are licensed and up to date on all shots, including rabies,” noted Lindsay Taylor, Director of Parks and Recreation. “In addition, applicants must attest that they maintain insurance and will keep it current for the duration of the permit.” Narberth residents can purchase permits for $30 per dog.

Other requirements include a current photo of each dog with the application, and the current year Montgomery County Dog License Number. “We also encourage that a valid e-mail address be provided, because our Department will use e-mail to distribute information regarding the program and to elicit feedback.”

Permit holders will receive a membership card as well as a permit tag for their dog’s collar. Permit applications can be downloaded from www.lowermerion.org by following the Parks and Recreation Department prompt to “Off-Leash Dog Areas.” They are also available at the Parks and Recreation or the Police Department offices during regular operating hours, Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Citizens with questions on this program can e-mail recreation@lowermerion.org or call the Parks and Recreation Department at (610) 645-6220.
