The Issues Report
Generally, Comprehensive Plans are broad brush documents containing general recommendations. The depth and breadth of issues facing the Township combined with the extent of existing planning efforts create a need for the Lower Merion Township Comprehensive Plan to be a much more detailed document containing specific, targeted strategies.
It is anticipated that the Plan Elements will be prepared over several years primarily by staff with the assistance of targeted consultants to address specific issues (traffic, infrastructure) as resources permit. Starting in September, the Planning Commission will begin publically reviewing the Issues Report for the purpose of making recommendations to the Building and Planning Committee regarding the content and order of preparation for each of the Plan Elements.
While the Issues Report is professionally formatted and printed, it was deliberately presented in a binder to indicate that it is a working document. It is anticipated that the report will be refined through the public review process and the binder format will allow supplemental material and final recommendations to be added without expensive reprinting or reformatting.
It is staff’s goal that the Issues Report will serve as a framework for a thorough, thoughtful and detailed discussion of the future of the Township. The report was prepared to provide all members of the community with the essential information and facts necessary to make informed decisions.
