Historical Commission

Regular Monthly Meeting

Chair: Christian Busch
Vice-Chair: Gerry Fisher

AGENDA

INFORMATION

1   Township update on criteria update process and historic resource update schedule

2   Update: Merion Cricket Club Land Development plan and Conditional Use approval

ACTION

Demolition/Renovation Permit

       3   1301 West Montgomery Avenue, Bryn Mawr – Ashbridge Barn – Class 2 – 2018-R-3

The Township proposes to renovate the larger barn at Ashbridge Memorial Park, which was built in 1927. Work includes replacement of lapped siding and 13 windows.

       4   911 Old Lancaster Road, Bryn Mawr – Class 2 – 2018-R-4

Applicant proposes to replace existing vinyl windows with new vinyl windows with the same general specifications.

       5   Update: 601 Righters Ferry Road, Bala Cynwyd – Class 2 – 2016-LD-22

In July 2016, a preliminary proposal for this site, the former Pencoyd Iron Works, was presented to the Commission. At that time, the applicant said they would return when elevations of the new buildings were ready. The applicant now returns with those elevations and other details of the upcoming development, which re-uses portions of the site’s industrial buildings.

       6   256 Broughton Lane, Villanova – Class 2 – 2018-R-2

Applicant proposes demolishing the resource, a two-story detached dwelling that was once an outbuilding of the Walnut Hill estate. Application was tabled in January.

Inventory Amendment

       7   501-507 Old Lancaster Road, Haverford – 2018-IA-5

Application to add two single-family residences to the Historic Resource Inventory as historic resources. Though the properties are in the Haverford Station Historic District, which is overseen by the HARB, the Township Code only gives the Historical Commission the authority to add resources to the Inventory. The properties are currently un-classed, but classification is required to allow for development on the site. Both residences are mid- or late-19th century structures. One of the homes would be moved to another end of the property as part of the development proposal.
