The Historical Commission shall perform those duties established by Chapter 88 and by Chapter 155 with respect to recommending to the Board of Commissioners those properties to be placed on or removed from the Historic Resource Inventory, distinguishing between those properties to be classified as Class I and Class II Historic Resources. The Historical Commission shall further give counsel to the Board of Commissioners, as provided for in this chapter and in Chapters 62, 135 and 155, regarding the preservation or demolition of those resources of historic significance located in the Township, but not within a local historic district.

Historic Preservation Awards
The HARB and the Historical Commission periodically co-sponsor awards. The 2017 Historic Preservation Awards were held on October 19 and took place at the Levering Mill Tribute House.
In 2017 the Township was proud to honor 9 historic preservation projects, 3 individuals for communication/education efforts, 8 past members of the HARB and Historical Commission, and Gerald Francis, recipient of the Robert DeSilets Award.

Applicant seeks to add a historic Montgomery Avenue milestone to the Historic Resource Inventory as a historic object.
2 382 Bala Ave, Bala Cynwyd – Levering Mill Tribute House – Class 1 – 2017-R-16
Applicant proposes a new accessible ramp on the rear of the building, replacing existing non-accessible metal stairs. Decorative elements such as railings will take influence from the historic building.
3 1016 Spring Mill Road, Villanova – Stoke Pogis Lodge – Class 2 – 2017-R-18
Addition of a rear two-story to replace an existing one-story shed roofed addition. Building will be evaluated for other needs and will be repaired/restored in kind.

4 128 Old Lancaster Road, Bala Cynwyd – Temple Adath Israel – Class 2 – 2017-LD-17
This modern synagogue is best known for its 12-sided sanctuary designed by Pietro Belluschi and Charles Frederick Wise in 1956. The applicant proposes an addition to the northeast elevation of the northwest vestibule. It would cover a ca. 2003 cooling tower and create a clearly visible main entrance for more convenient access to the Main Sanctuary and other portions of the building. The area to the southeast of the southwest vestibule will be re-landscaped and the porte-cochere removed.
