The Historical Commission shall perform those duties established by Chapter 88 and by Chapter 155 with respect to recommending to the Board of Commissioners those properties to be placed on or removed from the Historic Resource Inventory, distinguishing between those properties to be classified as Class I and Class II Historic Resources. The Historical Commission shall further give counsel to the Board of Commissioners, as provided for in this chapter and in Chapters 62, 135 and 155, regarding the preservation or demolition of those resources of historic significance located in the Township, but not within a local historic district.

Historic Preservation Awards
The HARB and the Historical Commission periodically co-sponsor awards. The 2017 Historic Preservation Awards were held on October 19 and took place at the Levering Mill Tribute House.
In 2017 the Township was proud to honor 9 historic preservation projects, 3 individuals for communication/education efforts, 8 past members of the HARB and Historical Commission, and Gerald Francis, recipient of the Robert DeSilets Award.

1 742 Argyle Road, Wynnewood – Torah Academy – Class 2 – 2017-R-5
A two-story addition to the northwest corner of the historic school building, replacement of all windows in the school, new lighting, new fencing to surround the property, and enclosure of the disused “ceremonial” front entrance (facing Argyle Rd.) with recessed windows. Returning to the Commission after having been tabled in February.
2 510 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bala Cynwyd – Bala Cynwyd Middle School – Class 2 – 2017-R-6
Proposal to construct a temporary modular building containing six classrooms. The two listed historic resources on the property are the Cynwyd Elementary School (Class 2, built 1915) and the Lower Merion Academy (Class 1, built 1813). The entire school property is National Register-listed.
3 223 N. Highland Avenue, Merion Station – Kohelet Yeshiva High School – Class 2 – 2017-R-7
Modifications to previously approved additions to the Kaplan Wing, an existing modern wing attached to the historic resource. The addition would be clad in red and gray brick; it was previously shown as stone with a relief panel and a different window arrangement.
4 335 Righters Ferry Road, Bala Cynwyd – Miller Bell House – Class 2 – 2017-IA-9
Application to add a historic farmhouse to the Historic Resource Inventory. The house is planned to be retained as part of a larger apartment building development.
