Chapter 88 Historic Districts:

Chapter 155 Zoning:

The Historical Commission shall perform those duties established by Chapter 88 and by Chapter 155 with respect to recommending to the Board of Commissioners those properties to be placed on or removed from the Historic Resource Inventory, distinguishing between those properties to be classified as Class I and Class II Historic Resources. The Historical Commission shall further give counsel to the Board of Commissioners, as provided for in this chapter and in Chapters 62, 135 and 155, regarding the preservation or demolition of those resources of historic significance located in the Township, but not within a local historic district.

Application for Review (PDF, 148 KB) - To initiate the process of obtaining a building permit for a property on the Historic Resource inventory (HRI), applicants must submit a completed copy of this application.

The Historic Resource Preservation Ordinance - enacted 3/15/2000, contains the references to all Code Chapters impacted by this ordinance.

Historic Preservation Awards

The HARB and the Historical Commission periodically co-sponsor awards. The 2017 Historic Preservation Awards were held on October 19 and took place at the Levering Mill Tribute House.

In 2017 the Township was proud to honor 9 historic preservation projects, 3 individuals for communication/education efforts, 8 past members of the HARB and Historical Commission, and Gerald Francis, recipient of the Robert DeSilets Award.

Demolition/Renovation Permit

       1   306 Bala Avenue, Bala Cynwyd – Class 2 – 2016-R-34

Proposal to replace the home’s roof, which is a combination of asphalt (on the original portion) and red slate (on a later addition) with CertainTeed Landmark asphalt shingles, color to match current.

       2   510 East Lancaster Avenue – Red Leaf Manor – Class 2 – 2016-R-35

Addition of HVAC units attached to side wall of second floor rear, replacement of one window and one leaded glass door.

       3   325 West Montgomery Avenue, Haverford – Merion Cricket Club – Class 1 – 2016-R-33

Amendment to the design presented at the November 28 HC meeting. The proposed roof dormer on the 1928 Locker Room Building to accommodate an elevator has been modified, and the height of a wall on the roof the Locker Room Building to hide mechanical equipment has been amended.

       4   1007 Smith Drive, Penn Valley – Class 1 – 2016-R-36

Amendment to the design presented at the November 28 HC meeting. Addition is scaled down and steps back from existing residence.

       5   742 Argyle Road, Wynnewood – Torah Academy – Class 2 – 2016-R-37

Proposal includes a security vestibule addition to fill in a corner of the historic structure, replacement of all windows to Pella Architect Series hung windows.

       6   128 Fairview Road, Penn Valley – Isaac Huffman House – Class 2 – 2016-R-38

Application to demolish a Class 2 structure.
