A $250,000 Community Conservation Partnerships Program Grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) has been awarded to the Cynwyd Heritage Trail. The Lower Merion Township Parks and Recreation Department applied for the grant to fund parking and access improvements.

News of the grant continues the positive momentum supporting the recreational, multi-use, paved trail running from Cynwyd Station to the Manayunk viaduct along the unused portion of SEPTA’s R-6 tracks. Over one hundred volunteers pitched in on Monday, January 18th, as part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service to for a special Trail Workday.

DCNR is the primary source of state support of Pennsylvania recreation, parks and conservation initiatives. Grant funding from the DCNR assists hundreds of communities and organizations across Pennsylvania to plan, acquire and develop recreation and park facilities, create trails and conserve open space.

Funding comes from Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, the Environmental Stewardship Fund (Growing Greener 1), the Growing Greener and Fund (Growing Greener 2) and federal funding sources. The grant requires a 100% Township match.
